Star Wars X-Wing : Core Game Reviews
Once again, cannot fault the serice from The 13th Floor.
The core set is a great starting point for getting to know the game. It gives a good grounding of the game mechanics and is very easy to understand and play. The miniatures (1 X-Wing & 2 Tie fighters) are of excellent quality and the card stock used for all of the counters and templates is also of the same quality. FFG really do put a lot of effort into the manufacturing of their products.
For anyone who buys this and then decides that they want to commit to the game, it is recommended by myself and numerous players the world over that another core set is a must when building your collection.
This game is thoroughly enjoyable and it's easy to see why it's one of the biggest and best selling games the world over at the moment.Boba Fetts Love Child
The game itself is very easy to learn. The difficulty comes in trying to anticipate and outmaneuver your opponent.
The starter set includes all the maneuver templates, rules, tokens and dice that you need, along with asteroids to spice up your space battles, and set scenarios which you can play if you wish.
Also included are 2 prepainted Tie Fighter models, and a prepainted X-Wing. The game includes separate bases and pilot cards for each pilot, and the starter set includes Luke Skywalker and Biggs Darklighter among the Rebels, and Mauler Mithel (Vader's wingman) among the Imperials.
You also get upgrade cards which you can add to the ships. These include droids such as R2-D2 and R2-F2, Proton Torpedoes, and elite pilot skills such as "Determination" and "Marksmanship" which further enhance your ships, and offer numerous different combinations for good replay value.
Expansions available now include X-Wing and Tie Fighter (new pilots and new upgrade cards), Y-Wing, Tie Advanced (which includes Darth Vader as a pilot...), Tie Interceptors, A-Wings, Slave-1, and yes - the Millenium Falcon.
Soon to come are further expansions from the Extended Universe, including B-Wings, Tie Bombers, HWK-290, and the Imperial Lambda Shuttles. And it looks like FFG are going to be launching new products and supporting this game for a long time to come.Doug
Very high component quality and fast, fun gameplay. The detail in the ships is very good and a nice paint job. I would recommend buying 2 core sets to get you started as it is good value and will give you enough dice and movement templates for all the players. Will support as many players as you want, just give everybody 1 squadron or ship each. Plays a bit like wings of war but the extra actions after moving and upgrade cards make it feel fresh and varied. I'm glad I purchased this and look forward to many expansions :)emmatig
